Barricades and fencing have been erected around the "Barnes & Noble" plaza at the corner of Bethesda and Woodmont Avenues at Bethesda Row. It encircles the fountain. The work wasn't quite finished yet last evening, as additional fence panels lay stacked on the plaza inside the barricades. No signage is posted to explain what is going on.

I believe that this is part of the Woodmont Avenue Streeterie construction, which will include moving the west curb of Woodmont Avenue about 12’ to the east, to create a wider brick paved walkway flanked by enhanced outdoor seating areas and two rows of new shade trees. The plan also shows six new parking spaces on the west side, but no changes to the east side (where the separated bike lane was constructed).
The site plan showed a new “plaza” area where the existing fountain, planters and seating area are in front of Anthropologie, but nothing specific.
A useless Yellow Brick Road. . .
Is this related to the indictment and will all MoCo popo regardless of status, be required to report for duty at 7:00am sharp tomorrow morning?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEssssssssssssssssss …. This is why Bethesda Row is nationally recognized as one of the most walkable, transit oriented downtowns in the nation. Federal Realty’s constant attention to creating a curated and well maintained urban streetscape should be applauded. An expanded urban plaza design at that corner is long due, especially now that the curbs have been extended and the roadway narrowed. I hope they include some nice landscaping, lighting and seating areas that will compliment the future CapitalCrescent Civic Green across the street.
I would prefer if the public could have weighed in on what is being built in the public right of way though…
Why did they take the trees down? Seating areas need trees!
