Here's a look at the progress at the future site of the new Giant building at the new Westbard Square development at 5400 Westbard Avenue in Bethesda. Since my last update, staircases have been installed in the parking garage, the structure of a roof awning across the top of the building is in place, the top floor windows have been uncovered, and additional brick facade work has been added. Around on the Westbard Avenue side, some facade accents have been placed around the top two levels. All businesses in the Westwood Shopping Center remain open during construction.

Do you know if the overhead utilities on Westbard Avenue will be moved underground?
Let’s not forget most of the older residents of the Neighborhood didn’t even want the old dilapidated shopping center updated in the first place. Thank Goodness they didn’t get their way and Montgomery County moved forward with the Newer Update to bring this shopping center in to the 21st Century !
41 year old resident here; didn't want it updated either. Someone is making money off this change against the wishes of the community, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was the MoCo council.
I'm just waiting to learn how many bicycle accessible lanes are allowed into the center since cars = bad.
The plan shows 2 large bicycle lanes and a light on Westbard Avenue in the area where Bowlero is - making it an improved commuter road is all smoke in mirrors and a total farse. Just another way for the county to make the main roads safer while destroying neighborhoods. Due to Westbard construction my kids can no longer Bike in front of their own home for safety reasons. But hey I guess I can take them to Old Georgetown to be protected by some dinky polls. Or little falls
Parkway by Kenwood where there is such little room for cars it’s basically asking you to hit the poles.
Which brings up an interesting point, some on here seem to think that riding on the side of the road is 'counterintuitively safe' sans bike lanes. That's ridiculous considering already so many new white posts being mowed down by cars. Nevermind the accidents that inspired this effort to begin with.
