Harris Teeter requests construction permit for downtown Bethesda store

Harris Teeter has requested a construction permit from Montgomery County for build-out of its future grocery store at 8300 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. The mixed-use residential building that will house the store, Flats at 8300, is currently being completed by Donohoe Construction.

If you recall, John Kosco of Donohoe said that his firm would eventually turn over the space to Harris Teeter this summer. At that point, the grocer's specialized construction contractor would build the store.

Harris Teeter is expected to open late this year, around the time the first residents move into Flats at 8300.

Safeway in the triangle sucks so doesn't count. :)

I am fine with the Safeway until the checkout and then I am overcome with rage when I am waiting with 15 other people in one of the two lines open.

Two lines open?!! You lucky shopper. I've never seen more than one line open.

Safeway has been letting the Old Georgetown Road store die on the vine since the new Arlington Road store opened.

Checkout lanes chronically understaffed, no self-checkout, and indifferently managed. One time I was kept waiting at the pharmacy counter because the pharmacist had randomly decided to buy his own groceries during working hours, when there were no other staff there.

Robert, any word on the future of that Safeway? They plan to keep it open?

Why does the Arlington Road store turn off the self checkout in the evening?
That's my only complaint there.

They turn those self checkers off and then have one checkout lane open.

It's because of all those shifty night people from Westbard. They're half a mile closer than the Giant.
