North China Restaurant moves next door in Bethesda (Photos)

North China Restaurant made a big move - next door on Old Georgetown Road. Yes, the Chinese carry-out has simply moved 1 door over from 7814 Old Georgetown.

There is no change in menu, simply in venue.

LOL, they didn't "move one door over". They just partitioned their existing location and built a new window and entrance and consolidated the restaurant in the northern half of the site. In other words, they've shrunk the restaurant.

Surely a "lifelong Bethesda resident" could have figured this out.

Here is the restaurant as it existed previously:

http://file1.chinesemenu.com/115741972/201204081733196.jpg

The awning and sign saying "North China Restaurant" used to extend along the length of that building. Now it's gone.

The new window is where the small octagonal window used to be. The new door is just to the left of that little corner in the wall.

Anonymous said...

So what is going in the other space?

Anonymous said...

What's also funny is that the website for the restaurant now re-directs to that of an unnamed law firm.

Anonymous said...

The entrance as moved one door over; hence they moved one door over.

Anonymous said...

Except that the door did not exist previously. It was not previously a separate site.

Anonymous said...

Their new name is One Door North China Restaurant

Robert B said...

Let's just call it what it is as a renovation and be done with it. No conspiracy. No big deal Dyer mistook it for a physical move one unit over.

Anonymous said...

The "new" door has been there for weeks (maybe months?). That new "storefront" was created awhile back, but was empty until the restaurant moved over.

We knew something was going in there, now we know who and when.

Someone should pay Dyer a visit with a Baseball bat ... maybe his reporting would improve?

Anonymous said...

Does Louisville Slugger make cluebats, I wonder?

Anonymous said...

9:59 you are disturbed!

Anonymous said...

You people need to chill out, geez!

Anonymous said...

I notice that "anonymous" is pretty tough online, but in person is pretty shy and low energy.

Anonymous said...

@9:01 the new space created by the downsizing has been earmarked as a permanent studio where Robert Dyer and Tarnation Bob will review food and drink offerings.

And a tennis court.

Anonymous said...

Didn't they used to have concrete lions out front? Change their door location a few years back?

Robert Dyer said...

10:13: Super low-energy, even lower energy than Jeb.

Robert Dyer said...

7:36:"LOL", I did "figure it out", and that why I reported it and the newbies and carpetbaggers didn't. Don't you need to get Hans Riemer's coffee or something, knucklehead?

Anonymous said...

What does that mean?

Huh?

Robert Dyer said...

3:19: There you go again, risking jail time for your threats, stalking and harrassment. Pretty stupid considering you've identified yourself by placing yourself in small meetings with only a few people in the room. You're definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer, Mr. "Anonymous."

A record of your comment is being made as evidence for law enforcement. I suggest you cease and desist your campaign of harassment.

Hull's guy is soft spoken and low energy...like his hero Riemer. Tough behind a computer screen though. Typical Internet troll.

Robert Dyer said...

8:46 PM: Just again took a screenshot of your latest harassing, stalking and threatening comment for the law enforcement record.

You do realize you have now identified yourself as one of a very small group of people in particular public development meetings held in downtown Bethesda? Pretty stupid.

Your employer won't be happy about being attached to the behavior you've engaged in online on this blog.

Again, I warn you to be smart and not require me to go to law enforcement regarding the comments and campaign of harassment you've posted on this blog.

Anonymous said...

Newbies? Carpetbaggers? Knucklehead?

This is being recorded and submitted to law enforcement.

Anonymous said...

Would reasonable people view the comments that Dyer deleted as "harassing", "stalking" or "threatening"?

Anonymous said...

I am submitting this very comment to law enforcement to save everyone a step.

Anonymous said...

Does Dyer realize that his over-the-top reaction just confirmed his readers' suspicions about "the shill"?

@ 9:01 AM & 7:11 AM - YOUR COMMENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE DOUBLE-DOG-DARE-YOU SECTION OF THE MCPD BLOG ENFORCEMENT TACTICAL UNIT.

MCPD takes threatening behavior VERY seriously. In this day and age, they can't be too cautious.

Anonymous said...

My new screenplay I'm working on..."Bethesda blogs and the bloggers that blog"

It's a heroic story of the men (Dyer, Hull, and whoever runs the robo Patch site) who chronicle the happenings of a small. sleepy suburb of DC. The triumphs (Dyer), tragedies (BethesdaNow) and comedy (Riemer).

Watch as these men rush to report on the latest chain restaurant opening, monitor traffic cameras and receive press releases.

If I can't get this filmed, I'll direct a performance at our new black box theater.

Anonymous said...

MCPD takes threats to file false charges of "harassment, stalking, and threatening" very seriously. In addition to being threatening and harassing in themselves, false reports are serious crimes.

Anonymous said...

@10:34 chill

Robert Dyer said...

6:54: They absolutely would. Frankly, I've never seen comments or a campaign of harassment like this on any other local news site going after a specific journalist. It would definitely be a huge story if the perpetrator were exposed to the public.

Robert Dyer said...

7:21: There's no such thing as an "over-the-top" reaction when people make threats, and engage in stalking behavior, in an attempt to intimidate journalists.

Anonymous said...

@6:03 relax

Anonymous said...

I meant "rub" not "run"

Anonymous said...

A child and a friendly dog could intimidate dyr....

T said...

What threats were made?

Don't you consider yourself a public figure? Ran for office. Publisher of Suburban News Network. Go to public meetings. Touting your cum laude degree in Latin American history from the University of Maryland? self-releases international recording artist? How is any of that stalking when it's publicly available info? You've been interviewed and talked about it all publicly before.

Anonymous said...

Ooh the one that will replace the toilet and faucet store, eagle bank, used clothes shop, and 4 story Miami building? The one that no one was asking for but was being pitched as a community need?

"T" makes a very good point. You've made much of your information public, if you want to be taken seriously as a journalist, you need to show some restraint. Flying off the rails at the posts on your blog discredits you, and could be a reason why the County government often links to BethesdaBeat which frequently comes across much more professional.

George Hayduke said...

Mr. Dyer,

Can you elaborate any on this "campaign of harassment"? Just because a ready disagrees with you on an issue does not mean they are harassing you. Perhaps they are interested in a public debate of an issue? If you ever are elected to public office, you will have many people that disagree with you and your positions, in which case more tempered and professional responses will be necessary.

Anonymous said...

I've never had Robert fly off the rails at me for expressing a different opinion.
Then again, I've never found it necessary to use personal attacks to make my point. Just sayin.

Anonymous said...

Some folks are bit too obsessed with Robert Dyer.
Let it go guys. He's one journalist.

Anonymous said...

Some folks are [a] bit too obsessed with defending Robert Dyer.

Let it go, "guy". He's no journalist.

Anonymous said...

From Wikipedia:
"A journalist is a person who collects, writes, or distributes news or other current information."

Sounds like what Dyer does 7 days a week :)

"9:59" threatened Robert way in the beginning of these comments

Anonymous said...

"journalist" is a loose term when describing Dyer...perhaps "Blogger" is more appropriate. You don't see professional journalists engaging is internet feuds with people who post on their site (WaPo, Bethesda Magazine etc)

George Hayduke said...

@10:31 It seems like I must have missed some of those posts as it appears quite a few were deleted.

Anonymous said...

@ 10:31AM George Hayduke - aha, a reference to the author of 'revenge' books, like "Don't Get Mad Get Even."

In general, I still have to wonder what this person(s) is lacking in their life that they need to make rude/vulgar comments on this blog without provocation. Obsession. Just sad.

Anonymous said...

10:33 AM old idea of a journalist. You don't have to be published on paper to be considered a journalist. Welcome to 2015. Vox, Buzzfeed, Yahoo etc. employ journalists.

Dyer is a nice guy. You wouldn't know if you don't leave your basement. Get out to community events.

No coincidence angry anonymous guy isn't so sensitive about the weird personal attacks on Dyer. Be consistent!

Anonymous said...

Threatened his life?

Anonymous said...

Isn't the mere act of publishing a public blog seeking readership provocation in and of itself? He's soliciting response, reaction, readership.

Anonymous said...

He certainly flies off the rails against Reimer and MoCo for having different opinions.

Anonymous said...

@12:12PM writes 'Isn't the mere act of publishing a public blog seeking readership provocation in and of itself? He's soliciting response, reaction, readership. '
Soliciting response, reaction, readership-- certainly. Doesn't warrant personal attacks.

The Dyer troll obviously has a problem with Dyer, not with the issues. Don't see the same attacks in the BB comments. (I just read 40 and didn't find any. Although I'm sure someone will find one to throw in my face.)

At this point the shills outnumber the troll.
So Mr. Dyer Troll, how has Robert whipped you into such a frenzy? Inquiring minds want to know. There's a fine line between love and hate.

Anonymous said...

How would you validate such a statement that shills outnumber trolls?

Anonymous said...

Did Dyer's shill just call himself a shill?

Anonymous said...

Not what @12:42PM posted. Re-read.

Anonymous said...

12:42 PM is spot on. The negative troll is a guy with some beef with Robert Dyer.
Either he thinks Dyer is a "competitor" with his news site or he has some political beef with Dyer.

Either way, he's wasting his time. Dyer's readers don't care about his personal score with Dyer and Robert Dyer isn't going anywhere.

Anonymous said...

OMG!! Let's get back on topic. This has drug on long enough.

Anonymous said...

This doesn't make any sense.

Anonymous said...

@ 2:04 PM - Let's not bring pharmaceuticals into this.
Oh. You meant dragged. Never mind.

Anonymous said...

Dyer isn't going anywhere. Don't like his content, that's cool because you can get the official MoCo line from many other sources.
Don't torture yourself if you hate Dyer by coming here everyday..lol. Get help.

Anonymous said...

I can't even tell to whom Dyer's shill is responding anymore.

Does he just have a daily quota to fulfill?

Anonymous said...

Dyer isn't going anywhere. Get over it. Move on.
Drop the hate...it can't be healthy. :/

All the insults...for an article about Chinese takeout.

Anonymous said...

When did anyone say dyer was going anywhere? I hope he doesn't stop writing his blog I like the insider Bethesda news and scoops.

Yeah he really should drop all the hate for MoCo and Reimer. It's unhealthy as you said.

And yes this is a weird thread to be off topic. Readers and dyer always go way off topic it's amusing.

Anonymous said...

The thread was going just fine through 9 comments. Then @9:59AM (The Dyer Troll) suggested violence for no reason. Although several attempts were made to get back on topic, the Dyer Troll couldn't handle anyone with a different opinion, and had to lash out.
Why don't you go bother BB for awhile, if that's even possible.
Oooh, looks like a new tag line has been coined. I'll join in. Dyer isn't going anywhere.

Anonymous said...

shill
A word used by conspiracy theorists when they are losing an argument. The conspiracy theorist calls their opponent a "shill" in an attempt to discredit them by implying that they are paid agents working for the government, the Bilderbergers, reptilian overlords, the Rotshschilds etc, because of course only such people could possibly disagree with them.

Robert Dyer said...

6:56: More BS. The Purple Line project of 2006 is not the same as the one in 2015.

Anonymous said...

@ 7:27 PM: "Don't you need to get Hans Riemer's coffee or something, knucklehead?" is not an "attempt to get back on topic".

Anonymous said...

@ 7:41 PM - What was your basis for removing that comment?

And what specifically has changed in the Purple Line between 2006 and 2015, that made it acceptable to you then but unacceptable now?

Anonymous said...

How dare Dyer delete vulgar/weird/stalkerish comments.
I've had it. I'm starting my own Bethesda blog. I'm gonna move to Northern Virginia first though and run it from there. I can't stand being too near those rich, uptight Bethesdans up close. Much better from the other side of the river.

Anonymous said...

@ 10:18 PM - Perhaps you could explain why your hero deletes comments that link to previous campaign promises of his, while leaving up a comment that suggests that he be hit over the head with a baseball bat?

Anonymous said...

Because he can. Start your own blog and you can delete comments too!! Maybe you'll even get your own troll. Then you can be just like your idol.

Anonymous said...

@8:04 for the win! Lol....."blogspot"

Anonymous said...

Actually in Obsidian Finance Group v. Crystal Cox, the ninth Court (Federal) ruled that bloggers are journalists—at least when it comes to their First Amendment rights.

Anonymous said...

So do commenters on blogs have the same First Amendment rights?

Anonymous said...

Dyer's site. Dyer's rules.
Don't like it, then start your own. Many have tried and they've all failed. :)

Anonymous said...

The shill is whipping himself into a frenzy yet again this morning.

The cognitive dissonance that he is desperately fighting off, must be brutal.

Are you saying you become a resident of where you're "born"? I don't think the babies born at Sibley hospital become DC residents.
As you get familiar with Bethesda, you'll hopefully start figuring this stuff out. It's kind of embarrassing at this point.

Anonymous said...

I am starting my own Bethesda news site. From northern Virginia. Cause I hate you MoCo people. Gotta keep my distance. You'll love me.

Anonymous said...

9:08 AM - stop stealing my lines. I used that at 8:42.
'So Mr. Dyer Troll, how has Robert whipped you into such a frenzy? Inquiring minds want to know. There's a fine line between love and hate.'

Anonymous said...

What's really funny is that Dyer's shill complains about the thread going off-topic, but none of his dozens of comments actually relate to the reconfiguration of the North China restaurant.

Self-awareness FAIL.

Anonymous said...

Actually a sale is a success.

What does suburban news network gain? Where is the revenue stream?

Anonymous said...

So it looks like this "Suburban News Network" consists of two other blogs besides this one. I just checked them out, and it looks like no one reads either of them. At all.

But it did solve one mystery - why Dyer has such a passionate hatred of Dan Reed of JustUpThePike.

Robert Dyer said...

9:11: You're still "Dumass Material". As 9:26 and most people with common sense know, you're born at whatever hospital the doctor has privileges at. You're making a complete fool out of yourself. Stop stalking. Stop harassing. You've narrowed your identity to one of a handful of people who were at specific real estate development meetings in downtown Bethesda. You should stop before your identity is exposed and you become a national laughingstock.

Robert Dyer said...

6:52: What an idiot. Both blogs have established daily readership.

"Self awareness" - another classic case of your psychological projection problem, projecting all of your negative traits onto others.

Sale isn't "a success" when the sale price is $1.

Anonymous said...

Was it $1? I didn't know that. Where did you see that?

Anonymous said...

So if your blog doesn't generate revenue then $1 > $0?

Why don't you run ads and make some money off this thing?

Anonymous said...

Even if it was actually sold for just one dollar, he's being paid a salary at his new home.

Is Dyer getting anything, other than occasional free food and drinks?

Anonymous said...

@ 9:29 AM - your "from Northern Virginia" talking point makes no sense. This might help clear up your confusion:

Bethesda Magazine
7768 Woodmont Ave., #204
Bethesda, MD 20814

Anonymous said...

I doubt anyone goes into journalism for the money, including Dyer.
Is any reporter covering a suburb of DC making loads of cash? I don't think Patch and Gazette reporters were.

11:14AM The Bethesda blog that was run from Virginia already crashed and burned earlier this year (R.I.P.)

The Northern Virginia resident who started it was asked why he wanted to start a blog covering a small city across the river, Bethesda. He purportedly said "I can see Bethesda from my front porch"

Anonymous said...

So...........back to my original question (it's wayyyyy up there near the top)

Didn't they used to have concrete lions out front?
Change their door location a few years back?

I know I remember lion statues, but was it this place?

Anonymous said...

Where does that $1 number Coke from or is that just made up?

Anonymous said...

A bit of a mixed message here. What is it you are saying?

Anonymous said...

@ 4:08 - Dyer's shill is obsessed with the Magazine, like Ahab and the White Whale.

Just sit back and enjoy the show. More popcorn is on the way.
