Buredo to bring sushi burritos to Bethesda in 2017

Buredo, the D.C. chain known for Instagram-worthy giant sushi roll burritos, is coming to Bethesda. Their newest location will be in the Wildwood Shopping Center, and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2017, the company said on Facebook. The expansion was first reported by Jessica Sidman of Washingtonian magazine.

The word "burrito" is used loosely, as the wrap is a sheet of nori seaweed, not a tortilla. Yellowfin tuna, salmon, pork shoulder, tofu, and vegetables are among the many fillings. Menu selections are more preset than the make-your-own emphasis of places like Chipotle, Beefsteak and ShopHouse.

It will be interesting to see if the Wildwood location generates the Georgetown Cupake-style lines that Buredo has in the District. This is another upgrade by Federal Realty at the property, which has added upscale fast casual Fish Taco and celebrity chef Robert Wiedmaier's Wildwood Kitchen to its dining roster in recent times.

You can check out the current Buredo menu on their website.

Oh yay. Even more people trying to park in Wildwood's wholly inadequate parking lot at lunchtime. Can't wait.

What's the source on this?

Washington Business Journal reported last week that Logan Circle's Maki Shop is expanding to Wildwood Shopping Center per their SEC filing. It would be quite strange to have two fairly similar places opening in the same shopping center at the same time.

Both Maki Shop and Buredo are located on 14th St, but Maki Shop is near Logan Circle and Buredo is south of K Street, so there might have been confusion about which large format sushi place from 14th st is opening in Wildwood.

6:15: It was the Washingtonian - there's a link to the story in the article. Maybe Maki Shop is going to Georgetown Square across the street?

Oh yeah, I see it.

Well this will be certainly interesting competition.

Also fascinating seeing all these fast-casual spots opening up in that area.

The pictures on their website are simply darling. We are very much looking forward to this.

These things suck. Burritos and other wraps have a nice gluten-strengthened wrap around them. These sushi burritos disintegrate after first bite.

5:26 It's adequate. You snobs don't like to walk very far so most of the parking goes unused.

6:26 AM Isn't that the truth, with such a MORIBUND economy what are they thinking?

7:19AM Yep. The county is all aflutter with prosperity. They replaced 20 employees with 20 employees. Progress and wealth? Or same old-same old?

Meanwhile, another restaurant closed it's doors in the area, but you wouldn't know that Scoop!

Sushi burrito seems like a dumb idea and I can't believe it has lines out the door. What vacancy are they moving into? Or who is there now who will be vacating? I think there are some openings currently in that center. It doesn't get my tummy growling with anticipation but we'll see.

This concept smells of a fad big time. No way you can sustain a concept like that for years on end.
Plus, two of tje same type across the street? Don't think that helps either.

Robert, since you linked to the Toll Brothers site, please also link your article to the petition site. You can find the petition at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KYP6QXS
Thank you.

12:31: I will add a link to the article. I actually had it in there and removed it, because I didn't know if they wanted to circulate it beyond the neighborhood.

I expect this place to last as long as that sushi/fro-yo place on Norfolk Avenue.

There are no parking spots in wildwood
Oh how I yearn for the days of grand Union, Montgomery donuts , people's drug 5 and dime one hair salon and there were enough parking spots and none of the crazy inpatient bald ucci 1% bmu drivers

I'm a normal reader of this blog. I commented a bit ago about not recognizing a picture of Rockville Pike north almost at Nicholson even though I've lived here 50 years. I care about my community. I've been known to go to neighborhood meetings.
Two times now, I commented on something I noticed on the pike and two times it's been deleted. A place closed and it surprised me since I had just seen it open a week or so earlier from my dentist's office window. My husband and I have been there in the past 9- days.
Why? That's all I want to know. Why? It was an innocuous little blurb.

8:05 AM - What place was it that closed? I'll be happy to answer your question if I can.

Thank you 3:40, it seems to be the name of the place that's forbidden here.
The earlier picture was the N Bethesda Market area and I flat out didn't recognize where on the pike that was located.
So as I turned from eastbound nicholson onto the pike south, I noticed the place had no "signage" and had surprisingly closed. You know anything over 10 years old is fodder for development, and this area was so much older than that, it was expected, but is still surprising when it happens..

I wonder if the two gas stations will go the way of the Bethesda gas stations. i.e. turned into banks or residential high-rises. The east-side one was already leveled and rebuilt when Metro came in.
