How many inches of snow to expect before Winter Storm Orlena is done with Bethesda will depend on the track of a low pressure area expected to move along the east coast on Monday. That will determine how far east or west the rain/snow line moves, and the additional accumulation that will add to the snowfall total for today. Accuweather is forecasting 1-3" of snow for Bethesda today, and 4-8" total by Monday night.
We're starting off in the low twenties this morning. The temperature will gradually rise to 30° by 9:00 AM, 31 by noon, and stay steady there until it actually rises another degree by nightfall. Snow may be replaced by freezing rain at times in the afternoon and evening. Winds will gust as high as 12 MPH today, but will gust to 21 MPH Monday, as Orlena becomes a nor'easter.
Many main roads around Bethesda were pre-treated by Saturday evening. Residential streets were not.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) has asked residents "to monitor their local forecast, exercise extreme caution on our roadways, and above all, use common sense." Hogan urged drivers to leave snowplow crews plenty of room to operate.
