Paris In Town restaurant contents being auctioned off in Bethesda

Late last month, I reported on the apparent closure of Paris In Town at 4903 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda. The permanent closure, hinted at by legal action taken by the landlord to seek over $70,000 in unpaid rent, has now been confirmed. Just about everything inside the restaurant is now being auctioned off online. The auction will begin closing today at 11:00 AM, and winning bidders will collect their spoils on Friday at the restaurant.

I'm not superstitious, but that space appears to be jinxed. It couldn't help that a real French restaurant was just across the street. I wonder who will be the next to fail in that space.

Nothing will succeed in this poorly designed space.

This space is sort of cursed as concept after concept has failed. What could be successful there? An incredible Italian style deli and I don't mean Bradley Food and Beverage which has somehow succeeded despite being less than average. Anyone know Casapulla at the beach? That's not rocket science but is the best deli I can think of. Anyone else have an idea?
I would be interested to hear what others think. French cafe, no. Taco, no. Coffee place, please no. Burger joint, maybe.

My guess is the rent is so high, any new business starts out in a deep hole. Bethesda could use a Jew-ish deli, but two have already failed.

was the problem not the French opening hours of that place? I never went but I planned to a few times, it was always shut or shutting soon.

Is it the location, or something more to do with the landlord? Was a huge fan of Bold Bite (in the original smaller location, still miss those arepa breakfast sandwiches), and their expansion to this space is what seemed to torpedo the whole thing.

Vace could move there. Better parking than their current location.

My vote would be for Bethesda Bagels to open a second location there. I think they would as much business there as they do at their Bethesda Avenue location without taking away any of that location's sales.

No one has said BBQ. A small place like that, serving kick ass BBQ, would crush. Mobile order, carry out, dine in or even have standing tables. Tht place on Cordell is beyond awful. How it's even still open defies logic. Bethesda area would flock to good BBQ like ants to honey.

We could sure use another New Orleans-style restaurant. I miss Louisiana Express/Kitchen.

There are so many places to get a breakfast bagel in that neighborhood. Cafe Xpress and the place in Gallery is plenty.

Smashburger was previously in that space, so a burger concept probably would not work either.

Bold Bite expanded into the space that Pitango is in now on the corner of Fairmount and Norfolk. This space is one block over on the corner of Cordell and Norfolk.

Smoke BBQ is down the block and Ensemble had opened with Federalist Pig as part of their offering. Smoke BBQ is still around, but I believe Ensemble pulled Federalist Pig from its offerings prior to closing.
