Montgomery County temporarily shuts down La Catrina in Bethesda

The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services has posted a "Do Not Occupy" notice on the exterior of La Catrina Bar & Lounge at 4935 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda. No reason or specific code for the closure is cited on the notice, but it says the premises cannot be occupied until a valid Certificate of Use and Occupancy has been issued by DPS. Interestingly, La Catrina posted about its happy hour tonight about an hour ago on Facebook, while the County notice states that "All persons occupying these premises shall be prosecuted."

We no need no stinkin' Certificate of Use and Occupancy!"

Why start now?

Good, I think. I stopped by there one evening and the crowd was super sketchy and there were 2 bouncers doing full pat-downs of everyone entering. I presume they were looking for weapons. What other place in Bethesda would have to do that? Let's build a craft house or GastroPub there instead.

That's how "Society" in SS started, slightly different crowd tho.

If they're frisking patrons, then they know the liability and character of their clientele. So, if there would be violence then they get to 'externalize' it onto the street where we get the burden of collateral damage and of course the other costs! Let's look to SS and Wheaton to see what's in store.

Few people go in there. When I look inside the staff have nothing to do. I doubt if they are making enough to pay rent.

Why drive over to Silver Spring when you can have that experience right here in Bethesda?

And some wonder why Bethesda has zero nightlife. Too many losers who whine and fearmonger at the prospect of anything that's not some mid-tier chain.

What "tier" gets a pass on Permitting? Where does 'frisking' fall into your tier hierarchy?

Seriously, it's obvious most of these commenters haven't spent much, if any, time in DC or Silver Spring.

People are complaining that this place is "sketchy" because it has *too much* security? Seriously? Y'all can't even pearl-clutch right.

There's also a key lockbox on the door now. For rent?

5:24: Lockbox is rarely a good sign.

8:19 - The issue isn't "too much" security, but the fact that the place marketed specifically to clientele and their associates that necessitated pat-downs of all entering.

It's reopened and blaring "music" tonight as I just walked by... Also, there's some sketchy individual driving a high-end Mercedes sitting in the parking lot facing the club which seems to be in line with all the previous comments describing the "clientele" of this joint.

Hopefully some 'Security' is watching the cars to keep peeps from breaking in and getting the weapons that the proprietors are worried about. Maybe a good place for our crime fightin' po po to park one of their cruisers in front of. Our gubmint loves to stifle business, if they're going to do it, let's start with the liabilities first.
