A Chevy Chase house fire on 45th Street near Willow Lane drew a 3-alarm response from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue late this afternoon. Smoke and flames attracted attention in adjacent downtown Bethesda, and as far as Rockville.
The fire, in an unoccupied home under construction, also affected a home next door. MCFRS Public Information Officer Scott Graham says the fire is now under control, and 3rd alarm units have been released. Now fire officials are investigating the cause, Graham says.
Residents of that next-door home have been evacuated tonight, but were allowed to retrieve valuables (see photo below). Windows are open to air out their home, and firefighters were seen carrying pieces of what appear to be insulation out of the house.
There is still a significant presence of firefighters on-scene, hosing down the severely-damaged home where the blaze started. The property is surrounded by fire-retardant foam.
