DC power surge closes Bethesda Metro station

The Bethesda Metro station is currently closed, due to an escalator failure. WMATA has just announced that the failure was caused by the Southern Maryland power surge that impacted parts of the DC area earlier this afternoon.

Metro says it expects the Bethesda station to reopen in less than 30 minutes from now. Technicians are replacing a speed sensor in the escalator at this time.

Shuttle buses are running between the Friendship Heights and Medical Center stations.
