Kate Spade New York under construction at Bethesda Row (Photos)

The future Kate Spade New York boutique is now under construction behind a wood wall on Bethesda Avenue. Such a barrier suggests the storefront will have a significant facelift beyond the interior buildout of the shop.

Kate Spade will be right by Barnes & Noble at Bethesda Row, taking over the former Petra space. Petra has relocated to Annapolis.

Let's hope this national chain sticks around. Retailers and restaurants are dropping alarmingly quickly in Bethesda.

Another uber-luxury brand nobody will patronize regularly. How about a Pei Wei or something?

Another Americanized Asian restaurant that no one will patronize regularly? How about a Target or something?

But I jest. Kate Dpade hopefully at least has deep pockets to keep alive in this spot with such high rents. Like $100/sqft plus of something last I heads.

I really would love a Target, Crate and Barrel (Outlet would be nice), best buy, etc. Maybe woodmont triangle can grow to become this type of retail environment once more residents come in.

As a regular Kate Spade shopper, I was excited to visit the new location. Unfortunately the staff was snooty. They didn't greet me or talk to me once. Perhaps because I was dressed super casual?!? Nothing like the service in Tysons Galleria. The staff there is always friendly and helpful.
