Marbles closes at Westfield Montgomery Mall, Voorthuis coming soon, Yum Crepes is....? (Photos)

Marbles: The Brain Store, as expected, has closed at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, perhaps reflecting the lower academic standards adopted by Montgomery County Public Schools in 2015. Apparently, we're just not smart enough anymore for a brain store, nor for Smart Toys, which also closed a few months ago.

In other mall news, Yum Crepes is closed again in the Dining Terrace. What that means is unclear. The kiosk has been closed every day I have been to the mall this past week, including Saturday. However, it is not cleared out, and Yum has done this before, only to open a few days later. Stay tuned.

Finally, Voorthuis Opticians has put up some "coming soon" signage at their new mall space.

Sears just made their pre-bankruptcy announcement last week. After they close, more closures will come at this dead mall.

It would be helpful if you could post a floor plan showing all the vacant shops and restaurants.

"The kiosk has been closed every day I have been to the mall this past week, including Saturday..."

The thought of this middle-aged, fashion-impaired man hanging out at the mall, is just creepy.

8:26: Well then, stop doing it. They're tired of a dumpster-diving hobo like you hanging around.

1. Marbles declared bankruptcy in February, and is closing all of its stores;
2. It somehow escaped your attention that the store was focused on those with brain issues, and not the "brainy" among us. Its website says it specialized in "brain games" to help older people with memory loss, children with ADHD and others who want to improve focus and attention.

Your gibe at Montgomery County Schools is just plain stupid.

7:20 - that's a real blow to our country. Sears closing. It's the end of an era or more like century. Craftsman tools is or will be taken over by Black and Decker an old MD company still hanging on. Question is where will they sell all their tools? Home Depot?

12:06: It's the next generation of students who will be stupid - with no final exams to determine they've learned anything, and an easy grading system that will drop our County's academic reputation among admissions offices. Whoever decided to cheat our kids out of a quality education (BOE and County Council) are the stupid ones.

And Dyer gets further and further off topic.

I'm on topic - our school system is no longer turning out large numbers of the sharp minds that would seek out Smart Toys and brain games. Thanks, Hans!
