Quincy's "temporarily closed" in Bethesda (Photos)

Quincy's at 4920 Del Ray Avenue was closed and dark last night. A sign in the window said, "Temporarily Closed." One source has told me the closure is permanent, but I have no official confirmation or evidence of that as of press time. It was closed Monday night, as well, but Quincy's is always closed on Mondays. No explanation for Tuesday's closure was given on the sign posted.

I can't wait for Bethesda Magazine's report two hours from now. All the questions will be answered and all the sources will be identified.

Even without this sign, the writing is on the wall/door for a long time. The staff was nice folks and it's sad this happened, but you gotta manage a business well and maybe that did not happen in this case.

Looks like the old legacy print Washington Post scooped Dyer regarding the neglected cemetery in Tobytown.

Another big restaurant story breaking here first :)

I never had the chance to give that place a shot....#BringBackHardTimes

@ 5:41 AM - Shouldn't you be signed as "Bethesdan"?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone here believe it's entirely possible to have two separate writers to have two separate sources? Or is the quickest to post instantly the only source of record available and anything posted afterwards must have derived their information from there?

Anonymous said...

6:09AM - Exactly. Not only possibly, but probable.

I miss Hard Times, Shakey's, Pizza Hut and the Blockbuster video that used to be at the corner of Bethesda Ave and Arlington.

Well, that sure didn't take long. Maybe they should relocate to Monty Mall!

In all seriousness re: Women's Day - do we have any noteworthy female CEO's in Bethesda? I've always been curious.

Robert Dyer said...

5:38: Tobytown isn't in Bethesda, dumbass.

6:42: Marillin Hewson of Lockheed Martin, Marla Malcolm Beck of bluemercury are just two that come to mind.

5:19: I hope so, because I am the source.

5:43/6:40: Don't give up so quickly, there is no official confirmation yet that Quincy's has closed. It could be a temporary closure, or it might not.

And Robert Dyer once again ignores the question that doesn't suit his answer.

@Dyer

Can you go one day without insulting readers or using profanity?

Anonymous said...

Neither is Farm Road, Birdbrain!

Anonymous said...

7:10 AM I vote for a day without plagiarism.

Anonymous said...

Dyer in the article: "One source has told me the closure is permanent..."

Dyer @ 6:58 AM - "I am the source."

Anonymous said...

Prove it.

Robert Dyer said...

7:10: I've never insulted a reader, only our resident paid troll. I've never used profanity.

7:12: My favorite part is that the Council didn't know about the cemetery until watching a video. Like their tourist bus tour of Westbard. We need councilmembers who know the county - and who will demand an FBI investigation of Farm Road and the Planning Department.

7:15: You don't seem to know the difference between a source like Deep Throat, and the article that breaks news about Watergate, for example. The reporter should not and does not reveal confidential sources, but other media must cite Woodward and Bernstein's reporting if they want to write about the content of it.

You've deleted comments from many people who think your rightfully crazy. Robert Dyer you've accomplished nothing in your life - enjoy your pathetic blog and your fake scoops.

Anonymous said...

What's stopping you from contacting the FBI about Farm Road, Dyer?

Anonymous said...

8:39am list your mighty accomplishments please

I have a feeling putting a couple of coherent words together would be your first ever accomplishment.

@8:39 AM

You really seem to give Dyer so much importance by wasting so much time on him. If was was irrelevant and unimportant, you would just ignore him. You are like a child bully who only bullies someone because you want to be friends with someone but are too much of a loser for them to accept you.

Robert Dyer said...

10:08: Your comments have been troll comments. Ergo, you are the troll. A regular reader wouldn't come in with harsh, caustic criticism in a sneering tone of voice, just a troll.

"Harsh, caustic criticism in a sneering tone of voice"

Heh... you just described yourself to a "t", Dyer.

But I suppose you prefer "relentlessly positive coverage of yourself".

Phil R said...

You guys are hilarious! Please invite me to your next happy hour, hopefully at Quincys if it re opens.

Dyer's troll @8:39 AM is so needy...always making demands that Dyer give him attention.
Infantile behavior really.

Anonymous said...

By your own definition then you are a troll. Both in your articles and comments.

Anonymous said...

This exactly.

Anonymous said...

10:57 AM Can you get me a gratis subscription to your magazine?
I usually only see it in the waiting room of my doctor's office.

Thanks.

Anonymous said...

11:15 AM I guess that means no gratis sub for me?

Anonymous said...

11:05 = 10:35 = 10:09 = 9:33 = 6:27 = 5:41

Anonymous said...

And 11:15.

Anonymous said...

11:24 AM/11:26 AM = The minute between posts counting guy, I presume?

Where's my magazine?

Anonymous said...

11:05AM - Believe what you want. You're the one looking bad.

You have to admit, it's kinda short-sighted to think that no one but the nemesis troll will speak out about Dyer.

I'm going to forgive your ignorance, though. You talk about going to the doctor so much, I don't want to be too hard on you for something that could be medical or prescription related.

And the long vigil finally came to an end at 2:37 pm. It's great to live in Bethesda. :)

Anonymous said...

I wanna believe that Bethesda residents are better than the internet vitriol currently in this chain.

Anonymous said...

12:10 PM Agreed. I wish the freelancers and interns would stop posting weird comments here and focus on their blogs. However, they're not Bethesda residents- most are based outside of the county limits.

Anonymous said...

And "the other site" now has the full story - broken heating/ ac unit.

Anonymous said...

Dyer's troll is still craving attention and wants Dyer to pat him on the head and say good job.

Anonymous said...

Dyer, do you plan to update your article to note that the closure is in fact temporary, and related to the failure of a heating/air conditioning component, for which a replacement has been ordered?

Robert Dyer said...

6:57: No, I've got it just right as it is. We know the signs say "temporarily closed." There's also a source who has stated the closure is permanent. That's where we stand now. It's temporarily closed, as my headline clearly indicates (did you not notice the headline?), and once it actually reopens, I will post an update. The article in the small and slightly failing magazine that ripped mine off later in the day without attribution is taking the BethesdaNow Pizza Pass approach, and that's up to them.

Anonymous said...

Robert I think you are wrong. Arnie was the source in Bethesda Magazine article. Why are you so stubborn and negative?! Sheesh. I have a source who claims that the entire staff has been fired on Monday. The heat exchange failure is just something they are saying so the banks don't jump on them yet.

Robert Dyer said...

4:42: Wait a minute, wait a minute - I tell 6:57 I'm not going to update to say the closure is definitely temporary, and you are saying I'm wrong because the closure isn't temporary? Aren't you and I on the same page?

My article and comment both say a source has told me they are permanently closed. Of course the business is not confirming that, so it cannot be reported as fact. But you should be criticizing the small and slightly-failing magazine for naively accepting the HVAC narrative. I'm the guy who said a source told me it's closed permanently!

Anonymous said...

Leave Dyer alone guys. He's just embarrassed again that he's been upstaged again (just as 5:19 predicted lol) but too conceited to admit it, just like his narcissist hero TRUMP.

Continue to placate him by telling him his 101% reliable blog is the best ever and even the WaPo editors are dripping with envy.

Anonymous said...

I called this one from before the opening. Q is/was a real slimy dive operation, along with it's other locations. They have been known for fights, rude service, poor food, etc. Sorry I didn't bet on the closing.

Robert Dyer said...

8:10: Upstaged by what? A later story copied from mine without attribution? A different news outlet naively falling for the old Pizza Pass/Bethesda Barbeque Co. story hook, line and sinker?

Laughable. The only moron "dripping with envy" is you, caveman.

Anonymous said...

Dyer's blog has fights and rude service, but its troll food is second to none in the DMV!

Anonymous said...

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but the old "plumbing" or "A/C" issues are the oldest tricks in the book when a restaurant closes but can't admit it yet.
Even Chef Geoff used that when he pulled out of Rockville.

Remember when Bethesda BBQ Co. was cleared out (including the toilet) and they were still telling folks don't worry, we're reopening soon!

Anonymous said...

guess the part is on backorder, still not open

Robert Dyer said...

6:12: I think my hunch this is a "Pizza Pass" situation is proving to be correct. No HVAC repair takes over a week to finish, and no bar stays closed on St. Patrick's Day.

If the Bethesda location is anything like the G-Burg location it most assuredly should be shut down. The location in G-burg is a dump. Service is abominable, and the owners are crass, boorish, vulgar, and too tolerant of "regulars" that act as hooligans and criminal behavior that accompanies it is entirely intolerable. Frankly, I am stunned that the Police have not close it down long ago. Anyone that remembers the N.I.S.T. employee ("Fed Police for NIST) was involved in Meth amphetamine production, that resulted in a NIST Lab blvd being exploded , due to this dolt , trying to reenact "Breaking Bad" It is not a stretch to realize that he was running things , if u know what I mean, at Quincy's of G-burg just across the street.
