Amazon Fresh Chevy Chase/Gaithersburg update (Photos)

Amazon Fresh store under construction
at the Collection at Chevy Chase

Here's a look at the progress on two Amazon Fresh grocery stores in Montgomery County. The store at the Collection at Chevy Chase in Friendship Heights is nearing the finish line. In contrast, the sound of the starting gun is still echoing at the second Amazon Fresh store at the 270 Center on Shady Grove Road, on the Rockville/Gaithersburg border.

Chevy Chase

Both locations are massive makeovers of buildings that already hosted retail stores; a Giant in Chevy Chase, and an Office Depot at 270 Center. A lot of work recently at the Chevy Chase location has been the complex wiring that will govern the high-tech shopping and checkout experience. At 270 Center, work so far has been gutting the Office Depot, and boarding up all of the entryways and most window openings.

I go by the Chevy Chase location all the time and it's far from done. It's puzzling what they have to do to these stores. It's already taken over a year and maybe even longer to get this one open. When it is finally opened, it will be awesome to check out. The convenience style concept that Amazon has (I went to one in NYC) is just wild. It was spotlessly clean and so easy. You access the app, start shopping and just walk out. All stores need to follow their lead. Giant is much better than its competitors with it's scanner but still can be slow.

Not Happy

We needed a real grocery store like Safeway or Giant

Fresh is for people who eat at restaurants

Call me middle class mom but Fresh worse than Whole Paycheck

No Minute Rice, uncle Bens, no lucky charms cereal none if the staples like progressive soup and more importantly none of the specials or discounts that make grocery shopping great

Worse this is in Senior area ... are there senior discounts or any of the great discounts like Campbell soup 10 for 5 bucks you see at Safeway!

Amazon must be broken up
