Bacchus of Lebanon at 7945 Norfolk Avenue in Bethesda is known for its authentic Lebanese cuisine and dining room architecture. This winter, it's also been known for its patio construction project, which took place at a time when only outdoor dining was allowed in Montgomery County.
The restaurant is adding a roof to the patio. This would not have helped much in the winter to reduce the cold, but it will allow the patio to be used whenever there is precipitation. That could come in handy if 2021 and beyond have more pandemic shutdowns ahead for us. Here is a look at the construction from the start through this weekend, with never-before-published photos in chronological order.

I like the big telescoping Kalwall roof. It will provide the outdoor space with lots of options to adjust the sun shading. I bet it would be a great space to hold a large outdoor, but covered, event like a wedding.
The only thing I don’t like is the big heavy white Corinthian columns supporting that lightweight black awning at the entrance. The idea of the columns bracketing the entrance is cool, but they should support a heavy element like a white architrave, with a nice metal Bacchus sign over the entry. Maybe it’s not done yet.
