Satsuma has closed in Bethesda

Satsuma
has permanently closed at 8003 Norfolk Avenue in downtown Bethesda. The Japanese restaurant was in business for fourteen years. Satsuma had a moment of worldwide fame when former U.S. National Security Council official Fiona Hill ordered takeout from the restaurant for "Lunch with the FT" in the weekend edition of the Financial Times in 2020.

Isn't currently part of the Steamers redevelopment, right? Would be worth the wait if the developer was able to consolidate all the 1 story properties.

Is Tia Queta still open? Every time I've walked by there it has been closed and there is no schedule posted.

Question for the oldsters here - wasn't that entire building a single restaurant, Buongiorno? Then it was subdivided and the southern half, what is now Satsuma, was renamed Buona Sera?

Tia Queta is still open. The family own their building so they can stay as long as they want. Developers no doubt will soon make an offer they can't refuse. Every corner over in Woodmont Triangle will be a massive mixed-use building.

Right, Tia Queta has dinner hours and is closed Mondays, so, depending when you walk by it may look closed.

It would be nice to see the entire frontage of Norfolk incorporated into a cohesive idea, with high quality retail lining the whole block, and dense housing above. Tia Queta seems like it is always about to collapse on its own accord.
