Old Navy has begun a major renovation of its Westfield Montgomery Mall store. The store remains open, for now, but they're having difficulty getting that message across. A large advertising screen placed over most of the front of the store has a contradictory message that would make Harvey Dent green with envy.
At first glance, it looks like the store is closed. One half of the wall suggests that Old Navy will be opening again in September; the other half says, "open during construction, enter through far-right entrance." The overall impression is that Old Navy is just arriving as a new store, and hasn't opened yet, which is underlined by the "Hi, Bethesda" that clearly was designed for use at new store locations.
We may not be able to straighten out the schizophrenic messaging of Old Navy, but a new vending machine at the mall is promising to straighten out your teeth. Just weeks after the arrival of Invisalign's showroom, competitor Smile Direct Club is aiming for the same customers in a more low-key way, and promising lower prices.
"No braces, no office visits, no paying a fortune," the machine says, which looks like an ATM stuck into a walled-off storefront. Perhaps Smile Direct Club is planning on opening a full-blown retail location at the mall. For now, this vending machine is on Level 2, in the corridor to the Dining Terrace.

Does anyone know the dates in 2017 on which Montgomery County's 11th and 12th homicides of that year occurred? I'm trying to figure out when the number for 2018 will fall behind that of 2017 again.
More super hard-hitting news from our favorite giant mall rat.
*yawn*
hey Bobby, want a story? I heard a number today of how much business the average store at Wildwood has lost since FedRealty lost its mind and started tearing up the parking lot at both ends. It's a big damn number. Go over there during waking hours (fortnite will be there later, I promise) and ask around. It's a good solid local story. And no signs.
"Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row" coverage area:
-1/4 mile radius of former Barnes & Noble
-1/4 mile radius of Veterans' Park
-Pike & Rose
-Montgomery Mall
Is "Happy Smile Kit" a euphemism for "Happy Ending"?
9:35am I hope so. I have no teeth left, but ordered 2 kits
9:33am Agreed. Dyer should stop covering the Woodmont Triangle and Bethesda Row. The real action is in Chevy Chase.
i also heard what 9:06 heard. And the stores had like 2 weeks notice.
I live nearby and it is such a PIA...
Federal Realty, Robert Dyer, and Donald Trump... all losing their minds at the same rate.

Considering that the only property in all of Chevy Chase that Dyer ever reports on, is The Collection...
Have you seen my teeth anywhere? Left them on a bench at The Collection.
"CavGrad" posts three articles up at 8:05 AM, "Steve" posts here at 8:06 AM. LOL
I'd like to hear that too. I'd also like to hear what or how many businesses in Wildwood are due to go out of business because of the construction. It is a nightmare and the old Elizabeth Arden side is expected to be torn up for 6 months. Robert, you need to go stalk they place for some scoops.
