Tapp'd Bethesda, the new bar taking over the recently-vacated Union Jack's space at 4915 St. Elmo Avenue, has unveiled its logo. The owners are also making an ambitious promise, in light of the outdated and troubled Montgomery County Government liquor monopoly system. There will be 40 beers on tap, and a selection of 100 bottles.
The tap house expects to begin interviewing prospective employees in the next two weeks.

This actually sounds better than Union Jacks! Having a place to go with a great beer selection is definitely better than a shady dance floor and weird creepers everywhere.
With 40 offerings on tap, I certainly hope they are progressive enough to dedicate one of them to Amstel.
Awesome! This is a great addition to the Montgomery County nighttime economy efforts!
if done right, yes, it could be a good addition. a little upscale but same time, casual. no drunken fights, no riff raff. add some really good bar food and it could be a winner. these owners have to start thinking of a clyde's type model or even houston's. that way, you attract a broader audience. you get people to spend money on great beer and food and then have a late night crowd with band or dj, whatever. i see no issue. i'm not on twitter but i understand that's the thing to do. get a strong social media following to attract your guests and they'll do well. you can't simply open your doors anymore and expect people to just walk thru.
From their add:
'Send along your resume and anything else you think would help with our decision'
Uh, are they asking people to slip a $20 bill in with their application? Maybe some bikini photos?
Thanks Dyer. Any update on the following:
Duck Duck Goose
Community
De Tapas
Quincy's
Dominoes (St. Elmo)
Harris Teeter
Vacant Greenhill spaces.
Community and Teeter. All the rest can go away.
Also asking for updates on Rockville Mellow Mushroom
It must suck to be a construction worker on Greenhill's moribund properties. It seems that they only get called in for a day or two every other month, just for show.
A friend of mine lives in Palisades and she says when Greenhill was working on that NYC skyline mural building they would be in early every morning before quiet hours ended and make a ton of noise while working and then quit in a couple of hours and be gone the rest of the day. Now no one has touched it in months!
6:03: Nothing in the nighttime economy initiative made this bar possible - just the private investment, work and initiative of its ownership.
I can't wait to vote for Riemer at least a dozen more times. I'm thinking of writing him in for POTUS.
All this Riemer talk on here is ticking Mr Riemer off big time. While you think you're attacking Dyer, in reality you're making a mockery of Riemer's tenure. Victory for unintended consequences.
9:07 AM - Oh, reeeeeaaaalleee?
don't be silly 9:07. Riemer himself would chuckle, if he knew this blog existed.
9:07: What if our intention is to mock Dyer AND Riemer?
9:37: Well, you'd probably want to start with Riemer's own party honchos ripping up his "protect government liquor monopoly" special orders bill in Annapolis. Sounds like he has zero pull in his own party.
9:37. He knows. Not chuckling.
Everyone can chuckle at Dyer's expense. What's the point of life if you don't take pleasure in Dyer's dumb rants?
Hogan's Purple Line will bring many people from Silver Spring to enjoy this fine establishment.
I find chuckling at Riemer is much more rewarding.
I think the Greenhill construction workers compete with the ones renovation the Shoppes of Bethesda (mall with Trader Joe's in it). That place has been under renovations for over 2 years now!
Yeah what's going on with that disaster?
amusing yet frustrating. :)
10:33: No rant here - Just 2-for-2 on scoops about what's replacing Union Jack's, that's all.
Wow. Defensive much? No one is really questioning your scooping ability thats pretty clear.
Same owners as Union Jacks it turns out.
