Rising crime forces many items under lock and key at Tenleytown Target (Photos)

The toll of rising crime over the last two-and-a-half years continues to have a visible impact here and nationwide. Shoplifting and spree thefts are exacting such a cost that The Wall Street Journal editorial board last week referred to the resulting impact on prices as a "shoplifting tax." Not only do customers pick up the tab for the losses, but stores are changing policies and tactics, as prosecutors increasingly take a light touch toward such crimes. Exhibit A is the relatively-new Target store in Tenleytown.

Many consumer packaged goods (CPG) are now in locked display cases. This was not the "case" when the store opened. Shampoo, body wash, and Tide pods are among the commonly-purchased items that now require "team member assistance" to buy. Video games are now in theft-deterrent cases, as well. While the cases may deter thieves, much like security guards in grocery stores and Neighborhood Watch signs, the psychological impression is made that one is not in a safe location.

Sign of the times and future under democrat rule.

And in related news, Bowser is being sworn in today for her third term. Dem run crap holes. Crime run amok and they do nothing.

Yeah, there was no crime under Trump...

Yeah, there was no crime under Trump. Rather than locked cases, let's get some "good guys with guns" to do security.

6:17/6:18 Clearly demonstrates the failure of public education. Nobody said crime was nonexistent under Trump. What we are witnessing now is is a result of poor policies towards criminals and police.

When democrats control everything, you get San Francisco where locking up merchandise wasn't enough and retail stores had to close. Sad that liberal ideology has replaced common sense.

@6:17 AM: It's been two years of Biden in office. You own this. Stop deflecting to Trump.

@6:18 AM: Would you consider those "good guys with guns" to be police? I would. You just don't have it in you to stop this from happening. You're ok with with the locked cases as long as you have political power.

@6:18 I hope you never own a gun.

This is all Elrich's fault! Crime never happened when Trump was in charge, just lots of patriotic riots. God bless America.

@4:25 - Ignorance and apathy aren't virtues. Try reading outside the MSM to get the whole picture. Probably a good thing that red-flag laws will prevent you from possessing a firearm.

On a hopeful note, Bowser has demonstrated a sliver of common sense by vowing to veto the new DC Council crime bill which was typical leftist desent into chaos legislation. Withholding judgement until we see what changes she'll sign onto.

This is why low income areas finally end up losing decent retail establishments. Being a store clerk is actually one of the more hazardous jobs from a crime point of view. The only stores left end up to be liquor stores and convience stores with the help behind plexiglass.

@2:42AM - Bowser may have vetoed the bill, but the council will override her veto it appears. Ooops! So much for your halting the so called "desent"(sic).

Sad that democrats can't see the forest from the trees and if the council does override the veto, then get ready for more anarchy in MC as criminals have a friend in Elrich & Moore.

You do realize that the Target mentioned is in DC not MD. There's a homeless contingent that hangs out at the entrance. Can't blame Elrich or Moore for that.
