Montgomery County police are investigating the theft of a vehicle from a home in the Wildwood Manor neighborhood of Bethesda. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of a house in the 5900 block of Avon Drive. It is believed that the vehicle was stolen sometime between 8:00 PM Monday night, and 8:00 AM Tuesday morning.

Lots of automobile smash and grabs have been going on in the Wildwood/Grosvenor-Strathmore area lately. Maybe this individual's car was unlocked or otherwise easily accessible and so the thieves just took it instead.
Just last week maybe a dozen cars got broken into inside the Avalon at Grosvenor Station parking garage, causing a resident uproar given the lack of proper security measures taken by the apartment complex. Though I can't say the same for the cars broken into parked on Tuckerman Lane that day - some folks just need to learn you can't store valuables in plain sight in your car overnight.
Before someone chimes in that we just need more police presence: the Avalon apartment complex at Grosvenor-Strathmore not only has a regular police patrol along Tuckerman and through the actual complex grounds, but multiple police officers live there with their squad cars in plain view both on Tuckerman and in the garage. To me, it looks like a combination of increased surveillance (cameras in complexes, at intersections, to ID criminals) and resident sensibility (keeping cars visibly empty of personal belongings if possible) would be great first-step deterrents against this type of crime, as clearly visible and persistent police presence has not been effective in this scenario.
Metro should change the station name to Dodge City.

It became capital hill west quick stop on the beltway for robbery and mayhem
Cheshire Drive became a highway for those wanting a quick detour from old Georgetown to Rockville pike speeding at 60mph
A few very frightening home invasions ( scary stuff ) and pedophiles moving in didn’t help…not once have I seen one police car cruise the streets in wildwood manor since 1980.
