Smoke Island opens second downtown Bethesda location

Smoke Island
has opened at 4949 Bethesda Avenue. This is the second location of Smoke Island to open in downtown Bethesda. They apparently are either following the Starbucks/CVS Pharmacy model of multiple stores close together, or are expecting a surge in business as Maryland elected officials entice a new generation of smokers to light up starting July 1. Smoke Island carries cigarettes, cigarillos, cigars, pipe tobacco, e-cigarettes and liquids, vaporizers, hookah equipment and accessories, flavored wraps, and rolling papers.

The slackers are coming out this weekend to celebrate Maryland's dissent into chaos. As a daily cyclist in rush hour it used to surprise me how many cars I've passed that smell of weed. I guess even lung cancer isn't a big deal anymore.

Sad sign of the times.

Unreal. Pot legal in days. We are going to have to endure the disgusting smell of the skunk weed everywhere. Totally insane that the pot movement has made its way across the nation. Pot is good? CBD, yes. I get the benefit of that. But straight up pot? Do your homework.
Kids are made to think this is ok? Remember the fried egg PSA? It fries your brain. My gosh, the daftness. Bethesda is a really nice community and this is Wheaton or SS esque.

There already goes the neighborhood.

What Bethesda could really use to show our progress is a Hookah Lounge. Most other cities in MC have one or two. Maybe Elrich et al. can help us out.

Smoking pot is as bad or worse than cigarettes. Yet, here we are with our government instructing residents how to use marijuana. From the odor that now permeates our neighborhoods, users still prefer smoking over other methods of injesting the drug. Yet, vaping is evil. Makes no sense. All part of the new lawless normal where men with trash bags are permitted to clear out retail stores.

531 is correct as weed turns productive employees into unmotivated "slackers"

619 is exactly the kind of employee that will end up on entitlements until Maryland makes pot smokers a protected class.

Convenient for the folks in the Hobo Hilton at Woodmont and Cordell.

I just cannot see how these stores pay their rent. Especially two competing and ostensibly the same franchise. Some kinda finance magic I don't understand.

1:56 - You're a thousand percent correct on that. Answer, they can't. But it related news, the pot dispensaries are going to make a fortune starting tomorrow. I really cannot believe we've arrived at this point. Tomorrow, people can literally walk into a pot store, browse a catalog, buy pot and smoke it up right on the street and cops can't do a damn thing about it. It's really surreal and will at some point be revealed to be a huge mistake.

Merely storefronts for vape laundering.

10:15 is correct as decades of PSA's warning people about the dangers of smoke related cancer is completely ignored.

In the short term, these government hypocrites collect tax revenue to spend on their pet projects and in the long term get a compliant percentage of the population that vote for the next insane idea. The explosion of homelessness in drug-friendly cities is the byproduct.

Agreed. Not enough know to worry about others drunk driving. Driving while high undoubtedly will become an issue. Insane chaotic world we now live in.
