Trash can fire in downtown Bethesda (Video + Photos)

Smoke was seen rising from a trash can on Wisconsin Avenue near Cheltenham Drive outside the CVS Pharmacy in Bethesda around 11:30 PM Wednesday night. There was apparently a fire burning inside the Bethesda Urban Partnership can. Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service personnel arrived on the scene and quickly extinguished the trash fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but there are surveillance cameras in the area that might show if it was set intentionally or by accident.

People unaware of Bethesda, as we know it, traveling along most of Wisconsin Ave (and all of River Road) would have no idea of our two little lobes of restaurants, stores and entertainment. If I were driving unaware along the few blocks by and especially north of that CVS and 7 11, I'd never get off 355. Same with essentially all of the commercial length of River Rd. Do any bona fide residents use that 7 11? It's a magnet for trouble, as is the 7 11/Talberts on River along those few blocks.

Yes, that CVS is quite heavily used by people living in East Bethesda, just behind the CVS, as well as tons of other people in downtown. My kids are devastated that it will be demolished - that and the soon to be missing 7-11 are their only complaints.
