Will Jawando endorsed by Westminster mayor in Maryland U.S. Senate race

Westminster, Maryland
Mayor Mona Becker

Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando (D - At-Large) has been endorsed by the mayor of Westminster in the Maryland U.S. Senate race, his campaign announced today. Mayor Mona Becker is a member of the faculty, and serves as chair of the Science department, at Westminster High School. Jawando is seeking the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Senator Ben Cardin (D).

“I am proud to endorse Will Jawando’s candidacy for the U.S. Senate," Becker said in a statement this morning. "All across the country, we have seen vicious attacks on the LGBTQI+ community coming from Republican politicians, and it is putting our community in direct danger. We need a progressive champion in the Senate representing Maryland who will fight like hell for our rights and not let our country slip back away from progress. I am confident that Will is the right person for the job, and I am excited to help him win this race.”

“I have been lucky to partner with Mayor Mona Becker in my capacity as Councilmember, and I am deeply honored that she has decided to endorse my candidacy for the Senate," Jawando said in a statement. "Mayor Becker leads Westminster with compassion, dignity, and grit. From defending LGBTQI+ rights to protecting our environment to so much more, we share the same bold progressive vision for the future of this country. I look forward to working alongside her to build a brighter tomorrow and represent the state of Maryland in Congress.”

Becker's endorsement may give Jawando a boost in the Democratic primary in the western part of the state next year. Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks (D) has been winning the endorsement side of the contest for Cardin's seat in the early stage of the race, having picked up the backing of influential Maryland Congressman Steny Hoyer (D). Other key endorsements Alsobrooks has received include those of Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman, Baltimore-area Congressman Kweisi Mfume, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, State Senator Anthony Muse, Town of Somerset Mayor Jeffrey Slavin and former Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett.

One prize endorsement observers are awaiting the announcement of is that of Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D), who has established relationships with both Jawando and Alsobrooks. A Moore endorsement could raise Jawando's profile statewide tremendously, or seal the race for Alsobrooks, whose toughest competiton so far is ultrawealthy Congressman David Trone (D). Maryland 8th District Congressman Jamie Raskin (D) could scatter all of this political calculation to the wind, however, should he decide to enter the race this summer. Raskin has a national profile, energizes progressives, and has beaten big-spending Trone before at the ballot box.

"[V]icious attacks" on the LGBTQ community is a complete misrepresentation of the facts. For example, is it an "attack" for a state legislature to pass a law, supported by a majority of that state's voters, that prohibits school lessons in elementary schools regarding LGBTQ issues? What about laws which are supported by large majorities nationwide prohibiting biological men from participating in women's sports? Should minors be allowed to choose to undergo pharmaceutical or surgical "gender transitioning" without parental consent or even notice? These are examples of the "attacks" that this woman believes are so vicious. The rights of folks who would be negatively impacted by the "rights" desired by the LGBTQ lobby, parents, religious believers and biological women in sports, are conveniently marginalized in favor of the victim class du jour. You are no longer a member of the "marginalized" class if your group gets a whole month in which to be celebrated. So her endorsement of Jawando who, in my opinion, is the epitome of a self-serving parasite on the body-politic, in order to solve a non-existent problem, should be taken with a grain of salt.

Another groomer in favor of teaching kids as young as SEVEN the ins & outs, (literally), of adult topics. The Montgomery County school board already made it mandatory with no opt-out by parents. They use MAP, (Minor Attracted Persons), while sane people call them pedophiles.

AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

What an excellent idea! He has established a singular track record of destroying the county. We should, by all means unleash him on the rest of the state.

In the immortal words of Dana Carvey, "Na ga da."

Keep in mind that some states, (not Maryland but Baltimore City), has laws against tattoos for people under 18 but no worries you can get chemically castrated as a minor without parental consent. The world is upside down and the inmates are running the asylum.

Jawando is a far Left nutbag and straight up racist. Yes, blacks can be racist too. He's a disgrace and has about a snow ball's chance.

You just know some of his enemies are playing the long game with him... Similar to Mosby in Baltimore, (ex-cops waiting to set them up after) just as they get comfortable in retirement... Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Where in the World is Westminster?

Problem in large parts of Maryland is that the average voter thinks "Gee this guy is black, it would be racist of me not to vote him". That's how Obama became president. If he looked like his mother's side of the family he never would have won.

If and when a second senator is elected from MoCo it will be a sad situation for Marylanders since it is a lopsided representation.

Sources, JAC? Links, articles, etc.

Jawando character is obvious, look at his legal problems.

In June 2019, Maryland State Police stopped Jawando in the White Oak section of Silver Spring. At the time, Jawando claimed he had been racially profiled. Maryland State Police countered that assertion, stating the trooper, who was Asian, did not know the race or sex of the driver prior to the traffic stop.

Thank you for posting that. Poster at 7:36 was asking for articles, links, citings, etc. That is the main one that I was thinking of. Make no mistake this guy's a radical putting it politely. He's among many others, including the woman in the national press this week who represents Montgomery County district 5. Talk about racist

Obama Beta, but in our yard. Beware smooth talkers with no substance.

JAC @ 7:41 AM:

the woman in the national press this week who represents Montgomery County district 5.

That's an odd - and disrespectful - choice of words. Why couldn't you just do a quick Google search if you couldn't remember Kristin Mink's name?

Because she is a "progressive" hack and no one with a brain wants to do anything to enhance her brand. Perfect for MoCo though.
