Leasing brochure prepared by Scheer Partners for Bethesda Bio building |
Unlike some on the Montgomery County Council, leasing firm Scheer Partners smartly focuses on NIH, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Uniformed Services University and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in its pitch to prospective biotech firms. Councilmembers who touted a "research triangle" that would include the FDA in White Oak were apparently unaware that the federal agency is a regulator, not an innovator. In fact, the FDA is often an obstacle standing in the way of biotech and pharmaceutical advances reaching those who need them.

You're unaware that the FDA has dozens of divisions devoted to scientific research?
Dyer thinks Thalidomide is just fine.
A quick trip to Wikipedia could have saved Dyer some embarrassment:
"Science and research programs
"In addition to its regulatory functions, the FDA carries out research and development activities to develop technology and standards that support its regulatory role, with the objective of resolving scientific and technical challenges before they become impediments. The FDA's research efforts include the areas of biologics, medical devices, drugs, women's health, toxicology, food safety and applied nutrition, and veterinary medicine."
@ 8:16 AM -
Also "radioactive beverages, the mascara Lash lure, which caused blindness, and worthless 'cures' for diabetes and tuberculosis." And Elixir Sulfanilamide, a drug formulated with a toxic, untested solvent, which killed over 100 people who used it.

Maybe that's because all of those facilities are within one mile of this site, whereas the FDA headquarters in White Oak, and their other offices in Rockville, are much farther away?
8:25 — Dyer doesn’t actually care if he gets the facts wrong, so long as he gets to shoehorn in a swipe at the Council. Sad!
FDA is an obstacle? You really don't understand regulatory agencies it appears. Without such "obstacles" the mere process of approval for any drug or pharmaceutical would be left to the snake-oil salesmen peddling false good. You are a peril to the county, which almost as bad as the current occupant of 1800 Pennsylvania Avenue. Maybe its just as well that you didn't show your opossum face in any of the Labor Day parades today.
12:45: I'm definitely a peril to your bosses in the MoCo cartel, but someone advocating for preserving the quality of life in our residential neighborhoods and actually creating some high-paying jobs in Montgomery County is hardly a "peril to the County."
8:25/8:06: Thank you for making my point even more clear - the "research" you refer to is primarily directed at enhancing its regulatory role. A role that often keeps innovative treatments out of the hands of those who are facing death and desperately need them.
9:10: Which facts did I get wrong, chump?
7:21 — The simple fact that the FDA does conduct innovative research.
BABA BOOEY!
7:49: Regulatory research - hardly "innovative." The FDA more often stifles innovation.
This building is .6 miles from the Bethesda Metro station.
Therefore out of the coveted half-mile walkshed of transit.
Therefore not "transit-oriented development", per Robert Dyer's definition.
Therefore "sprawl" by Robert Dyer's definition.
But where is Dyer's outrage? Such hypocrisy.
"the federal agency is a regulator, not an innovator"
Ummm...no
1:09: I have been, and will continue to be, in all parades that are open to non-incumbent politicians. I have two coming up this month alone. Gaithersburg and Kensington continue to be non-challenger-friendly - sad statement about their view of democracy. Unfortunately, you just outed the fact that you are a political operative. The ordinary person does not attend both parades - how else would you know I wasn't in them?

6:34: Ummmmmm...yes, Ben Sasse.
4:53: You seem to have forgotten about Medical Center Metro. Think about it.
@ 1:09 PM said: "Funny your sorry ass wasn't seen in the parade of candidates Labor Day. What you fear the electorate?? SHOW YOUR PRIDE!!! BaBa Cluck Cluck."
Saith Dyer: "Unfortunately, you just outed the fact that you are a political operative. The ordinary person does not attend both parades - how else would you know I wasn't in them?"
So did you actually attend any parades? Why not just say that you did, instead of this dipshit coy routine?
"You seem to have forgotten about Medical Center Metro. Think about it."
The Bethesda Bio site is also outside of the half-mile walkshed of the Medical Center Metro station. Baba Booey.
1800 Penn is the world bank - Typical uneducated dem....
6:43: I already told you I've been in every parade that welcomes non-incumbents this year, and I will be in all the ones left to come. You're the one shaken up because you forgot that going to both parades exposes you aren't just an ordinary reader and citizen. Only political operatives or incumbent elected officials would attend both.

6:48: Wrong! Google Maps confirms Medical Center is a half-mile from Medical Center. Baba Booey.
Dyer @ 8:55 says - "6:48: Wrong! Google Maps confirms Medical Center is a half-mile from Medical Center. Baba Booey."
Huh?
Breaking Bethesda news...when you want to be the first to know.
It's a damn good thing Medical Center is within its own walkshed. A non-transit oriented Metro station would be too much to bear.
"I've been in every parade that welcomes non-incumbents this year"
What parades "do not welcome non-incumbents"? And what is the penalty for showing up at such a non-welcoming parade?
Can't wait to explain to the 7 and 10 year-old kids up the street that they're political operatives.
They love parades and will try to charm anyone to take them to every one they hear about.
