Ourisman Jeep updates exterior in Bethesda (Photos)

Ourisman Jeep
has completed an update of the exterior of its dealership at 6700 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. This was previously a CVS Pharmacy. Now if they can just get the wood paneling back onto the 2022 Grand Wagoneer. Blasphemy!

Of course you realize that the so called wood paneling on the Jeep was just a vinyl sticker since the 1960’s.

12:10: The sticker is fine with me - it looks great. Motor Trend showed an example here:

SUVs became popular specifically because Boomers and Gen-Xers were too embarrassed to drive anything that looked remotely like Mom's Station Wagon. And fake wood trim just brings back memories of vinyl roofs, naugahyde and paneling in rec rooms. No one wants to go back to the 1970s.

Continuing the march into the future, I hope that Jeep will honor the Cherokee Nation and stop using their name for marketing purposes.

3:52: I would argue that nostalgia for the originals was almost the sole reason the Wagoneer was being brought back, and the wood paneling was a major design element. There is plenty of fake wood in today's modern vehicles, as well. The lack of wood on the Wagoneer immediately removes it from my SUV shopping list, and I am a member of the target demographic for this throwback vehicle. Whoever made the no-wood decision was clearly not the sharpest tool in the drawer at Jeep.

Sorry but the idea of adding fake wood paneling on a Jeep is just silly. Always was. About as much sense as adding fake carbon fiber wraps. Everybody knows it’s fake, but some folks still think it looks cool to pretend.

When padded vinyl roofs were introduced, they were intended to simulate a real convertible top. I always laugh when I seen an old Lincoln Towncar with a big fake padded convertible roof AND a big panoramic sunroof. Somehow they didn’t execute the fake convertible idea very well.

The reason it is being brought back is Chrysler/Fiat/Stellantis wanted a model to compete against the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator. In my opinion they are making a mistake by even including the word "Wagon" in the model name.

@ 5:55 PM - Yep. As Billy Joel said, "welcome back to the Age of Jive".

Vinyl roofs were a horrible rust magnet and I'm sure the fake wood paneling was as well.

There was a song in the nineties called "Fake" can't remember by who, but the singer was pointing out all the fake elements of his girlfriend that he didn't like. Guys give their cars female names, that must be because of all the fake items in them. Most notable nowadays are the exhaust systems, which I detest that scream FAKE! They are nothing more the speakers with amplifiers. These nuisances are now the bane of many county residents and under study for noise ordinance violations, especially in the late night/early morning.

As for some of the other fake items I would guess that 3:52PM has a lot of rich Corinthian leather covering the furnishing in his dated den.

SocialNorm @ 8:41 AM - 3:52 PM here.

Don't forget 8-track tapes, shag carpeting, carpeting around the base and tank of the toilet, those gold textured drinking glasses, and harvest gold and avocado everything. :)
