The Woodmont Avenue sidewalk in front of the construction site of The Edge apartments at Edgemoor Lane has reopened to pedestrians. That is giving the first closeup look inside the lobby and future fitness center. You can also see the nice accent lighting from the sconces along the exterior of the ground level.

The Edge looks great! I love the curving facade along Woodmont, which will be enhanced with lots of shade trees. I’m still frustrated that they weren’t required to include at least a token amount of street facing retail space to help activate the streetscape. Even a small coffee shop or an art gallery would help. Even more so because the Metropolitan on the opposite side is a nearly blank masonry wall. Lo0king forward to seeing how the new privately owned public space turns out around the corner and how well it will connect with the new pedestrian pathway between the ZOM and the Edgemont Apartments.
I also hope they spruce up the Edgemont as well. Nasty rust stains on the balcony railings. It would be nice if these were repainted charcoal grey to match the dark pallet of the Edge. The building is really looking tired next to the new hotness of the Edge and ZOM.
A missed opportunity for some ground floor retail here to liven up the street. Oh well.

Trees, perhaps. Lots or shade, not a chance. See those half dozen or so tiny dirt plots along the sidewalk? Actual, legitimate shade trees need space to spread their roots, for one thing. Plus, how shady do you think that fantasy canopy is going to get when the limbs start brushing up against the windows of the second floor? What you meant to say was "...which will be enhanced by a handful of ornamental trees."
Real, true shade trees are those giant, many decades-old growers that developers keep bulldozing to make way for more apartment blocks.
Developers and our Planning department must be doubling down on the concrete canyon vibe of that area of Woodmont Ave.
At least The Edge is visually interesting, provides some lighting and has windows along the sidewalk unlike The Christopher and Metropolitan.
It does seem like a missed opportunity to add some type of retail given the foot traffic of folks walking to and from Bethesda Row.
