Sneak peek: Luxury lobby and public plaza at 8001 Woodmont in Bethesda (Photos)

Barricades have been removed from the public promenade and plaza that connects Wisconsin and Woodmont Avenues under JBG Smith's new 8001 Woodmont apartment building. Here is a photo tour of that hardscaped and landscaped space, as well as a sneak peek at the upscale lobby, with art and furnishings in place. Still to be constructed are the interiors of Trader Joe's and Orangetheory Fitness.

Maybe the county should purchase the neighboring Bethesda Chocolates building after the block is fully built out. That two story building is awkwardly underutilized and too close to the street. It'd be much better to bulldoze it and expand the plaza; that'd make much more sense than the weird idea of expanding Vet Plaza while straddling a street in the middle.

I wonder if they realize that the landscaped area is going to become an unintended dog park?

Looks nice! This has been a long time coming and it will really liven up that block.

Any word on whether the existing Bethesda Trader Joe's will remain open? I think it makes sense to keep it given the distance between the two locations. Trader Joe's also appeared to put some money into renovating the existing store. They decluttered the place and rearranged the shelving so that there would be windows to the street. I'm not sure they'd do that if they weren't planning to keep the current store open.
