Amazon Books at Bethesda Row and Amazon 4-Star at Westfield Montgomery Mall will close. The commerce giant announced yesterday that it would be closing its bricks-and-mortar book and 4-Star outlets nationwide. Amazon did not give a timeline for the closures, but said closing dates would be posted in each store when the time nears.
Amazon Books in particular always appeared to be yet another chance for the firm to observe customer behaviors and gather data, as opposed to a viable retail concept. The store was rarely busy with customers. But Amazon cited its desire to focus on physical grocery stores as the reason for the mass closures.

I hears that this morning. That is horrible news. That bookstore, while not as good as the former B&N, which had everything, was pretty good. What the real loss will be here is a convenient and free drop-off for any Amazon purchases. Big bummer.
"I hears" it too!
Another brick and mortar store run out of business by Amazon :).
Anyloss of an amazon anything is a win for the middle class and the USA
Not grieving for this sterile store. Bethesda needs a great bookstore and this isn’t it.
Oh well. I guess they weren't getting enough customer data for it to be worth it. That's a shame, but at least Bethesda isn't getting singled out.
Hopefully what comes next there isn't another moribund bank branch.
