Hans Riemer endorsed by Matt Yglesias for Montgomery County Executive

Journalist Matt Yglesias endorsed Montgomery County Councilmember Hans Riemer in the Democratic primary race for County Executive Friday. In a tweet that displayed a portion of a recent blog post, Yglesias wrote, "I would vote for Hans Riemer." Yglesias, who reportedly lives in Logan Circle in the District, wrote that incumbent executive Marc Elrich (D) "is bad and people should vote against him. Hans Riemer is almost certainly the best candidate in that field."

"That field" also includes businessman David Blair, businessman Peter James (who just filed for the race yesterday), and County Councilmember Tom Hucker; no candidate of any other party affiliation has filed to run as of this morning. Yglesias also weighed in with a novel take on the Maryland governor's race, predicting Peter Franchot would top the Democratic field "based on name recognition and being white in a field with many Black candidates. And that's a shame."

A co-founder of Vox Media, Yglesias is now a columnist for Bloomberg, and publishes a subscription-based blog called Slow Boring. He is also a senior fellow at the Niskanen Center.

Typical woke journalist projecting his "liberal in good standing" billboard for all to see. Meanwhile, in the real world, Brandon's pick for VP has born the fruit of fools.

Are you running for Council this year?

If by "best candidate" Yglesias means the one most likely to systematically destroy whatever is left that makes the county an attractive place to live, then I am in agreement: Riemer it is.

"Dear Matt,

Please restrict your energies and attention to commenting on the cesspool that is reportedly your home turf --D.C.-- rather than endorsing a neighboring jurisdiction's candidate for whom you cannot vote, who is hell bent on transforming the still marginally attractive environs of suburbia into a bleak, soulless carbon copy of the inner city. If we wanted to live in a vast concrete jungle we would move to DC.

Sincerely,
Anonymous"

Why should any voter in Montgomery County care about what someone living in Logan Circle say about who we should vote for? Furthermore, this is one of the worst political critique/endorsement columns I've ever seen. It is not a solid political case or logical argument to state that "A is bad", therefore you should vote for "B, C, or anyone who can win". His "non-case" for Riemer & Riemer's acceptance w/o making a case other than "because I'm the only one who can beat him", make me all the more likely to vote for Elrich...or Blair, or Horton; all of whom are much better.
