Would it not be much more helpful to provide a list of Bethesda areas in which assaults have been most frequently reported (and how that's changing/changed over time)?
And/or in which traffic collisions have been most frequently reported (and how that's changingchanged)?
Rather than these one-by-one, context-free (yes, you've said that's all the information that was released) updates?
Bethesda offers a rich variety of evil-doers. In this case, the reported assailant was described in radio traffic as a white woman, 25-35 years old, who spat on the victim's car and that struck him with a "baton-like weapon." She arrived at the scene in a Mercedes G Wagon driven by a white female 65-75.
I was literally there at the time and didn’t see an assault. Where exactly was this? Someone was taken in an ambulance from SoulCycle because they were ill
I live near this location. I was at home with my windows open. I heard a woman scream 6 or 7 times. I tried to see what might be going on, but could see nothing. She sounded really terrified.
Robert, thanks for posting these. I know the radical, pro-crime activists in the area hate that you make people aware of these incidents in a timely manner but they are valuable and appreciated.
Although easy for me to say, not being the victim, assault is less worrisome than specific intent crimes such as strong arm robbery, armed robbery, burglary, and car jacking.
"Pro-crime activists." Indulge your fantasy and get a scanner, so you can further convince yourself it's 1980s Beirut out there. (Pssst: It isn't.)
Bethesda's pretense as a glitzy, glamorous, mini-Manhattan brings with it a soupçon of NYC's crime, too. You want Mayberry, move to Greenwich or Rye.
Spitball scuffle on Elm street?
If 946 is correct this would seem to be a Karen-related incident.
So the perp was a Desperate Housewife of Bethesda. Too funny.
9:31, I take it you're 'above' being a victim, too?
@11:25, If your oddly worded question is asking whether or not I am paralyzed with fear, cowering in dread behind a steel-reinforced door upon news of the latest random low-level crime in the area —-Fun Fact: 2nd-degree assault is among the most common criminal offenses charged. It can be levied any time there is a willful slapping, punching, spitting on another, hitting, pushing, biting, choking, or striking another with an object-— I suppose I am "'above' being a victim." Just so we’re clear, lest I be accused of being a “pro-crime activist,” crime is always bad; the less of it there is, the better for all law-abiding community residents. That said, crime happens. Everywhere. From Genesis to this afternoon’s police blotter, crime happens. You can choose to extrapolate that an assault, (or several assaults across the downtown area over a period of time,) means you, too, are fated to become a victim. But I imagine probability is more likely to leave you, (and me!) unmolested. I’m in my late 50s and lived in NYC for more than 30 years. Not once was I assaulted/attacked/victimized, either there or on these Mean Streets of Bethesda. Now, if Robert/MCPD were reporting, “Another day, another three dozen random, stranger-on-stranger assaults in the Bethesda Triangle,” I would pretty quickly re-visit my calculus. But as things stand, odds are better than not that, if you aren’t doing something dangerous, foolish, or provocative, you can probably go to dinner or the grocery store without fearing some random ne’er-do-well is spooling up to smack you in the head or, in the case of the crime that began this thread, spit on you.
Do you view driving as a suicide mission each time you get in your car? Certainly, emergency rooms and morgues have their share of drivers and/or passengers who were going about their business when someone smashed into them, injuring or killing an innocent. Does that risk, that somebody may cross the center divider or run a red light and strike you, stop your going out, or do you appreciate there is an inherent degree of risk involved in anything we do. In the case of running errands or eating out in Bethesda, I estimate the risks are sufficiently low to allow me to go about my daily routine and get on with my life. I encourage you to carpe the diem and realize your risks are similar.
341, while I generally agree with what you are saying it is a fact that there is a coalition in the Dem party that believes criminality is not the fault of the perps but of society in general. Due to the "systemic racism." This results in situations such as widespread smash and grabs, generalized shoplifting, increased street crime including car jackings and nigh time car theft, etc. Which are rationalized by lefty prosecutors and not sufficiently sanctioned. Think San Francisco. There is a general perception that crime has gotten worse, even in affluent Bethesda. MoCo is certainly run by progressives so maybe this has encouraged the criminal element to be a little more aggressive than they otherwise would be. That is what the more conservative posters are being critical of. You probably already knew this. I did not like it in MoCo so I moved to Florida, much more congenial to my political proclivities.
As if to help prove my point, 341, there is a story in the current MoCo 360 "Spiking car thefts drive return of MoCo police's Auto Theft Enforcement Section, thefts up 89% this year vs. 2022". The victim was quoted as saying "I don't feel like people are being held accountable..."
The assault, I agree is relatively insignificant. It's the specific intent crimes that I'm referring to. Those ok, too?
NOVA doesn't quite have the crime problems we do, why do you think that is?
*sigh*
Asked and answered, 4:27, 4:54, 11:08.
"Just so we’re clear, lest I be accused of being a “pro-crime activist,” crime is always bad; the less of it there is, the better for all law-abiding community residents."
Pretty clear from my posts that I was not pointing a finger at you 610.
But being passive ain't gonna help us, being passive is what's bringing more crime to us.
There was a gun assault in Bethesda metro in middle of afternoon
So anonymous 341 maybe time to take off your rose tinted socialist dem lens and wake up that crime is increasing throughout the US bcdemocrats believe in releasing criminals onto street bc of “systematic racism” whatever that is ….
Dear 5:21,
Crime began increasing throughout the U.S. under the now twice-indicted former Republican president.
Sincerely,
Factual Reality
Unfortunately "factual reality" can't figure out simple cause & effect but totally understand Brandon and all those prosecutors deferring incarceration is Trump's fault.
I wonder if telling your teachers that the dog ate your homework led to the confusion evident today.
12:20 Please cite which cities. Tho that elected President had huge tasks and uch damage to correct, crime is pretty local. I'm willing to bet the crime spikes were all in Democrats ruined cities.
Me thinks you just, proverably, 'stepped in it!"
Thanks for the laugh
Terribly sorry the internet offers such easy access to statistics that so resoundingly deflate your position, dear 2:05, 2:42. Sadly, facts are, as John Adams said, stubborn things.
U.S. crime began rising in 2019 and 2020, DJT president:
https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/USA/united-states/crime-rate-statistics
https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/myths-and-realities-understanding-recent-trends-violent-crime
So much for the twice-indicted former president's campaign promise, that "I alone can fix it."
Enjoy contorting yourself/yourselves conjuring excuses why/how the statistics are wrong. I'm sure you know the RealTruth(tm) no matter what the facts present. Please, be careful! With the super-secret insights you possess, surely the Deep State will be out to make sure you keep schtum.
So 738 continues to cherry pick statistics that prove it's all Trump's fault while democrats only make things better?
Seriously, put down the crack pipe and tell me is crime decreasing since your party took over? Of course since you lost congress it can now be asserted that once again democrats must be held harmless. Things like tabling DC's crime bill which would have released even more repeat felons is bad and goes against DEI. You and DC councilman Mendelssohn must share the same waterpipe.
I guess you and London Breed have something in common. Don't believe your lying eyes as it's "just a snapshot" and the real cause of San Francisco's decline is climate change & AI.
@3:41 PM, @12:20 PM, @7:38 PM: I conceal carry because of people like you. I won't be a victim of the crimes that you're unwilling to put a stop to.
