More barricades on Westbard Avenue in Bethesda; daytime utility work begins on Westbard

Additional barricades were placed on Westbard Avenue at Ridgefield Road yesterday. The new barriers force drivers coming down Ridgefield to turn right onto Westbard; the block of Westbard to the left has been entirely shut down. There is no impact on the increased cut-through traffic using Ridgefield and Springfield Drive that has appeared since the lowest block of Ridgefield was shut down on Sunday, as the barricades are simply preventing that traffic from venturing left onto that closed block of Westbard.

Utility work under Westbard Avenue began
yesterday

In other Westbard redevelopment news, the daytime utility work on Westbard Avenue expected to begin yesterday got underway on-schedule. The right lane of Westbard along the former Westwood Center II site is closed. It was used to turn right onto Ridgefield anyway, which is no longer possible.

What kind of clout do the handful of homes on Westbard have that they can close all traffic? Having access to Westbard from River would have alleviated the issues residents will have for years during construction.

Affected residents can probably complain to the county council or whomever closed access to Westbard at River.
