Wear it Well moving from Bethesda Row to Wildwood Shopping Center

Wear it Well
is leaving Bethesda Row. The women's apparel boutique at 4816 Bethesda Avenue will merge into sister stores Hadlee and Sequel at the Wildwood Shopping Center at 10303 Old Georgetown Road in North Bethesda. Both properties are owned by Federal Realty. A 20%-off moving sale is currently underway at Wear it Well.

Per someone associated with this business, the Beth Av store is closing at least partially (if not entirely) due to CRIME in downtown Bethesda.

I moved from Bethesda to another state earlier this year, but I frequent this blog to see how things are going in the old 'hood.' When I moved to Bethesda in the late 1990s, there were several independent retail shops selling women's clothing (Jan's, Pirjo, Petite Classique), as well as independent shops specializing in arts and crafts. Wear It Well is the last to go, and it is sad. I still have some nice things I purchased there. With regard to the crime factor raised by Anonymous @3:55 AM, I wonder whether they had a growing shoplifting problem, or was it the general atmosphere on Bethesda Row? After all, they are only open in the daytime. And why would Wildwood be that much better -- just not Metro accessible?

So sad to see Wear it Well go. It is one of the old fashioned store where the store keepers gave you nice suggestions what to coordinate top, bottom and accessories. They were good at that. I guess I try the one on Wildwood though not as convenient as before.
