Wegmans sets opening date for store near Tenleytown in Northwest D.C.'s City Ridge + sneak peek (Photos)

Wegmans
is opening stores just about everywhere but Bethesda these days. There's one under construction in Rockville, and now this Wegmans is set to debut next month in the new City Ridge development at 41 Ridge Square NW in Washington, D.C. You may be seeing ads for the store online, and depending where you live in Bethesda, you may have received a large postcard in the mail over the weekend. It touts the store as being "near Tenleytown," but it's actually south of Tenley Circle on the former Fannie Mae site - yet Wegmans is considering you in their target audience of potential customers, so let's take a look!

Here's sneak peek at the exterior, and of the interior of the supermarket's Market Cafe. You'll also notice they will sell beer, wine and liquor at this store. Here in Montgomery County, such grocery store sales of adult beverages are forbidden by our archaic liquor laws. The cafe looks great. I also like that the postcards were mailed from Rochester, New York, one of America's greatest cities - and not just because Wegmans is headquarted there. This Wegmans is scheduled to open Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 9:00 AM.

Theoretically, it will be nice to have a Wegman's quasi-proximal to Bethesda. I currently drive to Columbia to go to their store there. Of course, this "Tenleytown South" outlet will be so jammed with customers you won't be able to get within a mile of the place, but it's all about progress, not perfection, isn't it?

9:57 - There is a Wegman's opening on Rockville Pike at Twinbrook Metro. That huge hole in the ground will be a mix-use project and partially anchored by Wegman's. It won't be too long and that will be huge for the area and it's not that far from Old Geo'twn extended.

12:40 - My family are from Atlanta and we frequent Publix there as well as Charleston, SC. Publix is the single nicest full scale grocer maybe in the country. For those outside NY, Stew Leonard's is hard to beat. Publix would put a serious hurt on the legacy chains here that seem old and tired. I agree 100%.

8:48: I would like to see Publix expand here. Despite their brand name suggesting a cheap, generic supermarket, word-of-mouth from actual Publix customers has been overwhelmingly positive across the board.

Wegmans on Wisconsin is about to put a hurting on that Giant near Cactus Cantina and the future Wegmans on the Pike will obliterate the nearby Safeway and Giant. Wegmans is a superior grocery experience in all respects - quality and selection, terrific pre-made meals, awesome private label, competitive pricing, great looking stores, and the friendliest employees in the business.

And Robert, I can tell you first hand, as posted here, that Publix is the real deal. I spend a lot of time in Charleston and the Publix there is the nicest, brightest and friendliest grocery store I've ever been to. Wegmans coming is great as others have said here. But Publix would put them all out of business including Teeter which I also like and frequent. Publix is best no doubt and they could open many of them whereas Wegmans would be way fewer locations just because of size constraints.

Publix is amazing. Far superior to Giant, Safeway and Harris Teeter in every single sense. They excel from product quality to customer service and everything in between.
