One Medical opens in downtown Bethesda (Photos)

One Medical
has opened at 7187 Woodmont Avenue in The Darcy condominum building in downtown Bethesda (although their website incorrectly states their location is in The Flats across the street). Their space was formerly home to PassionFish. The primary care practice is one of several new healthcare providers opening facilities in downtown Bethesda, including GW Immediate and Primary Care at Bethesda Row a block away.

Waiting room

The primary care clinic offers same-day appointments, 24/7 telehealth services and everything from basic health checkups to management of chronic illnesses. One Medical is open 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Their in-house laboratory is open 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 1:45 PM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Annual membership starts at $199 a year.

Such a waste of a prime retail/restaurant corner in Bethesda Row. It’s nice to have medical services in downtown, but not at this prime corner. They even left the nice outdoor dining area in place. Looks like a real missed opportunity by the landlord. The same goes for the Chase Bank across the street. About 100 feet of nice glass storefront, at a prominent location (facing a future county park) filled with banking offices.

Of course these services are needed, but please don’t put them at prime corner locations.

FRIT destroying the restaurants, one by one, of what used to be their crown jewel.

I completely agree. It's unfortunate that such a prime corner has become moribund. Hopefully once the Urban Park opens up, things will liven up in that space in front of the Chase Bank.

Medical tenants are far more likely to be successful compared to food or retail options. While maybe not an ideal user for the space as a consumer for the Landlord it’s a big win. This tenant will survive in all economic conditions….

Has no one from the Darcy spoken up on this topic? Does the condo association own the space? Did they approve this tenant choice? Did they purposefully choose a non-restaurant/boring banker's hours tenant? If so that'd be a real shame and very shortsighted/NIMBY of them.

Robert Dyer @ 6:17 AM:

5:50 AM here. It may be a different owner but the failure of that restaurant was likely triggered by the failure of several restaurants that are on FRIT's property, plus their ending Barnes & Noble's lease.

The Darcy condo association does not control or own the ground level retail space. The owner of the Flats at Bethesda Avenue Apartments, and the ground level retail in that building, owns the retail space in the Darcy. All three are managed by Buzutto.

5:50-Robert Dyer "This particular property is actually owned by a different company than Federal Realty." This particular property is actually owned by a different company not Federal Realty. More appropriate?

1:56: I think you would need a comma in there: "a different company, not Federal Realty."

@9:21 AM: PassionFish closed because MoCo panicked and limited its seating capacity to 25% during Covid. This left them with a 40 seat restaurant. You can't run a 160-seat restaurant and bar with only 40 seats. They had to layoff 55 employees. What a shame. Other restaurants survived these restrictions by increasing their takeout business. I don't know why PassionFish didn't focus on that. They could have done fish sandwiches and sushi-to-go. Maybe they would have made it.

I'm a OneMedical client. At all their other locations in the area, they aren't on the ground floor. In Chevy Chase they're on the top level of a tall building for example.

I'm guessing the landlord gave them a good deal, but they'd have worked just as well on a higher floor and customers would've been fine with it too.

I guess it's good for Darcy residents if they have their doctor's office in their building.

I stand corrected as well. Thank you.
